Today in science class we learned how to be safe in the science lab. After going over the rules and watching a video, we had a scavenger hunt...sort of. It was a scavenger hunt that used QR codes to help solve a puzzle. The students did a great job cooperating with each other to figure out the answers to safety questions which led to pieces of the puzzle. I overheard the kids saying great things like "This is awesome! I'm learning and running around at the same time!" and "We can use your iPad to scan the QR codes and I'll write down our answers." and "I'm not sure what the answer is so let's try this first and if it doesn't work we'll try something else."
Spaghetti TowersWe had a GREAT first day of school! I'm so excited to get to spend a whole year with these amazing kids! Today the kids wrote about themselves, shared their hopes for the year, and were challenged to build the tallest possible towers using nothing but a limited amount of marshmallows, tape, string and spaghetti noodles. Our tallest tower was about 65 cm tall. It was wonderful watching the kids problem solve, try new ideas, and design something no one else in the room thought of. We picked the road to awesome today!
